This lesson will provide you with some of the most common patterns to talk about the weather in Vietnamese.

Common Vietnamese sentence patterns to talk about the weather

These three statements are used to ask for the weather at the place which the person you're talking to is currently living there (commonly used when talking on the phone).

Trời hôm nay thế nào?	What’s the weather like today?
Chỗ bạn có mưa không? Ngoài đó có mưa không?	Is it raining at your place? Is it raining there?
Trời đang mưa/nắng.	It’s rainy/sunny.
Trời sắp mưa rồi.	It looks like it’s going to rain.
Hết/Tạnh mưa rồi.	It stopped raining.
Mưa lớn quá.	It’s raining heavily.
Ngoài trời lạnh cóng.	It’s freezing outside.
Nóng/Lạnh quá.	It’s really hot/cold.
Dự báo thời tiết nói rằng ngày mai trời sẽ mưa/nắng.	It’s forecast to rain/to be sunny tomorrow.

Situation 1

B: Tớ vẫn khỏe. Cậu đã quen với chỗ ở mới chưa?	B: I’m doing well. Did you get used to your new place?
A: Tớ cũng quen rồi, có điều ở đây mưa nắng thất thường lắm. Mới nãy trời còn đang nắng mà bây giờ đã mưa như trút nước rồi.	A: Yeah, but the weather here is so erratic. It was still sunny, but now it’s raining cats and dogs.
B: Mệt nhỉ.	B: That’s too bad.

Situation 2

B: Mưa như vậy thì đi đâu được chứ, ở nhà cho rồi.	B: We can’t go outside while it’s still raining, let’s stay at home.

Situation 3

A: Thôi chết, trời mưa rồi.	A: Oh no, it’s raining.
B: Làm sao bây giờ, tớ không có mang theo dù.	B: What should I do? I didn’t bring an umbrella.
A: Tớ cũng vậy. Đành đợi hết mưa rồi về vậy.	A: Me too. We have to wait until it stops raining, and then we can go home.
B: Rõ ràng dự báo thời tiết nói hôm nay sẽ không có mưa mà.	B: The weather forecast said today there would be no rain, but it’s raining now.
