According to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 1 of the Law on Health Insurance 2008. This Law applies to foreign organizations and individuals in Vietnam related to health insurance. Therefore, the participation in health insurance applies to everyone living and working in Vietnam, regardless of Vietnamese or foreigners.

Compulsory health insurance premiums for foreigners

According to Clause 1, Article 17 of Decision 595/QD-BHXH

This Article clearly states that an employee working under an indefinite term labor contract, a labor contract with a term of 3 months or more, an enterprise manager, management and administration of cooperatives with salary, working in agencies must participate in health insurance (HI).

According to Article 18 of this Decision

The employee's total monthly health insurance premium is equal to 4.5% of the monthly salary. In which, the employer pays 3%; employees pay 1.5%. The monthly salary on which health insurance premiums are based is the compulsory social insurance premium.

Foreigners working in normal conditions

Foreigners who have undergone vocational training or vocational training

Foreigner working in heavy, hazardous and dangerous conditions

Foreigners working in particularly heavy, hazardous and dangerous conditions

Maximum health insurance premium

According to Clause 3, Article 6 of Decision 595:

Overall, this article provides the latest information on the foreign health insurance premium. It can be seen that there is always respect and equality between Vietnamese and foreigners when participating in Vietnam health insurance. This is a practical right of employees and also an obligation of Vietnamese enterprises when employing foreigners.
