According to the latest decision of the Ministry of Transport, the national airline Vietnam Airlines will only launch direct air service to the United States in 2020. Therefore, it will be easier to get a flight to Vietnam.

Vietnam has more than 10 international airports. There are 3 main places where you can see a lot of flights landing from many different countries in the world such as Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) and Da Nang International Airport (Da Nang). The first step is to have a Vietnam Visa approval letter (approval letter on arrival). You can get it from many Vietnam travel agencies. Usually, if you book a Vietnam tour package, the travel agencies will provide you with this letter for free.
Make sure that all the information such as your name, date of birth, nationality and gender is exactly the same as it is stated in your passport. Otherwise, you cannot go through customs.
Since February 2017, Vietnam has legally operated E-visa (single entry within 30 days of traveling to Vietnam). This form allows you to reach the 3 airports mentioned above and also the airports in Can Tho, Hue (Phu Bai), Phu Quoc, Nha Trang (Cam Ranh) and Hai Phong (Cat Bi).
You can see the application process on the official E-Visa website. You will have a Vietnam visa online so there is no need to fill out any other application form or pay any extra fee. This also saves your time at the airport. Just be aware that E-Visa is only used when you enter and exit Vietnam by plane as it is not accepted at land or waterway borders.
The Vietnamese official currency is Vietnam Dong (VND) and this is the most convenient way to buy goods in Vietnam. Changing USD to VND at Vietnamese airports is quite easy with reasonable rates, or some bank branches can do the changing for you.
