Mekong Delta or South Vietnam has a typically tropical climate with two different seasons: Dry season and rainy season. The dry season is from December to May and offers the ideal time for exotic tropical fruits. The rainy season, also known as the floating season, lasts from June to November and brings a new phenomenon for the region and new hope for the people here.

The floating season, also known as the Mekong high water season, is a natural high watering phenomenon typical of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, Tonle Sap Lake and Cambodia. But only the high water season in the Mekong Delta Vietnam is considered a "floating season". Although it is high water, it is not a natural disaster for the entire population in the south of Vietnam and Cambodia. In the Mekong Delta, the floating season usually lasts from seventh to tenth in the lunar calendar each year. In contrast, Mekong Delta residents consider it a season of changing agricultural practices. Their agricultural activities are being converted to the use of aquatic resources. The floating season helps them eliminate pests and diseases and deposit rich layers of alluvial land throughout the Mekong Delta.
If you choose to explore the Mekong Delta during the high water season, you will have an exclusive experience not found in other destinations in Vietnam.
The Tra Su Cajeput Forest is located about 34 km from the town Chau Doc and ten km from the Cambodian border. This place has become one of the wonderful destinations for tourists visiting the Mekong Delta.
The Cajeput Forest is a typical underwater forest in the western part of the Hau River. The exploration of the floating biotopes is possible by motorboat, rowing boat or on foot. With its cajeput trees and a great variety of flora and fauna, the Tra Su cajeput forest is typical for the landscapes in the Mekong Delta. Today it is almost inconceivable that this forest was destroyed by US bombs during the Vietnam War. In 1983, the forest authorities of An Giang province began reforesting the forest. Now the Tra Su Cajeput forest is also a bird sanctuary.

The Tra Su Cajeput Forest is the most beautiful in the high water season because in this season tourists can see more animals and plants that only appear in the floating season. During this period the cajeput flowers also bloom. In a quiet atmosphere, you can sometimes hear the bird sound. Birds that can walk over water are particularly beautiful to look at. A special feature is that the locals are trained here as tour guides for boat trips.

The floating village of Tan Lap is one of the ideal destinations for exploring the floating season in the Mekong Delta.
According to the locals, the floating village of Tan Lap was once a year-round high watered country. The locals became accustomed to the high waters and therefore always had the habit of building their houses on high hills. The ground floor of their houses was gradually built higher as the water level continued to rise. As a result, Tan Lap was called "the floating village". Nowadays, the locals no longer live in the village since the local authorities approved the project to develop the village into an important eco-tourism area in Long An province.
